Recommended for ages pre-born to ancient. After seeing the new movie twice, we had to get the whole collection (Madeline, Madeline and the Bad Hat, Madeline's Rescue, Madeline and the Gypsies, Madeline in London, and Madeline's Christmas), conveniently collected in one hefty volume. When I unwrapped it, my husband took it from me and read it cover-to cover!

A must for your Madeline Collection! Although the "Madeline" story doesn't live up to the earlier books (the rhythm is bumpy), it is entertaining. The other stories (not about Madeline) are absolutely marvelous, as are all the illustrations. John Bemelmans Marciano is a worthy successor to his granddaddy. This would make a great Christmas gift for any Madeline fan. My husband and I each bought one for the other! We gave our extra copy to our great-nieces.
