The Pohick Episcopal Church: 9301 Richmond Highway (U.S. Rte. 1). The Church was built from 1767 to 1774, and the site and building plans were selected by vestryman George Washington. The churchyard contains graves of early Americans including Revolutionary War soldiers. We shall sing in the acoustically lively Common Room of the Parish Hall next to the historic church. Driving directions from the Washington Beltway (I-495): There is continued major construction with lane blockages at the Springfield interchange of I-95. Resultant slowdowns are expected during the spring of 2004 and would be particularly bad on the weekday evenings. Thus, consider taking Alternative B below to reach Pohick Church.
Alternative A (I-95): From Beltway Exit 57 (old Exit 4) in Virginia take Route I-95 south (toward Richmond) 6.5 miles to Route 642 (Exit 163). When the exit ramp reaches Route 642 turn left* toward Lorton and go 1 mile to U.S. Route 1 (follow signs). Turn left on Route 1 and go for 1 mile to Pohick Church, which is on the right. Look for a historic plaque.
Alternative B (Telegraph Rd.): From Beltway Exit 176 (old Exit 2), exit onto Telegraph Rd. going south. Drive on Telegraph Rd. (which becomes Rte. 611) for 9.3 miles until it ends at U.S. Route 1. Cross Route 1 onto Old Colchester Rd. Pohick Church will be on your right, at the corner of Route 1 and Old Colchester Rd.

Parking: There are two church parking lots - one just off Old Colchester Rd., and one accessible from Richmond Highway. No public transportation on weekends.

Traffic: Please try to arrive in the Washington area earlier than 5 PM in order to get to the New Traditions Singing on time. Be aware that travel will be horrible on either route on Friday afternoon. Plan to carpool if possible.

The site of the Saturday social will be announced.  A map and directions will be provided at the convention.
